For Immediate Release

Columbus, OH – April 11, 2007 – The state’s chief elections officer, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner today received a letter of resignation from Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Chair Robert Bennett. The resignation was tendered as part of a settlement in which she agreed to dismiss her administrative complaint for Bennett’s summary removal provided he resign and dismiss the complaint he filed against Brunner contesting his removal.

“I am pleased that Mr. Bennett has arrived at this decision. The voters of Cuyahoga County will be well served by his actions,” said Brunner. “Now we can move forward with the appointment of a new board, who can begin the vital work necessary to get the Cuyahoga Board of Elections on track,” added Brunner.

One of the first orders of business for the new board will be to work with Interim Director Jane Platten in preparation for the Primary Election May 8. Another immediate concern will be the consultation with the selection committee to hire a permanent Executive Director and Deputy Director for the board.

In light of Bennett’s resignation from the Board, the removal hearing scheduled for Monday, April 16 is canceled

  1. Anonymous does make an interesting point but I have to tell you, I want the thing over and done with – we have an election on May 8!

  2. My first thought was, ‘Good’ but your anonymous raises a good point.Alas, I have no dog in this hunt. Good luck, Ohio.

  3. I saw that you left this comment at Openers. You need to contact the SOS office or the county BOE to make this request I would guess.

  4. Not so fast…The electorate should be entitled to have a look at the evidence that would have been heard next week. It’s not enough just to read the complaint’s five counts. Let’s have the details, folks. What is Chairman Bob brushing under the rug on this?
