BRUNNER RECEIVES BENNETT’S RESIGNATION
For Immediate Release
Columbus, OH – April 11, 2007 – The state’s chief elections officer, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner today received a letter of resignation from Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Chair Robert Bennett. The resignation was tendered as part of a settlement in which she agreed to dismiss her administrative complaint for Bennett’s summary removal provided he resign and dismiss the complaint he filed against Brunner contesting his removal.
“I am pleased that Mr. Bennett has arrived at this decision. The voters of Cuyahoga County will be well served by his actions,” said Brunner. “Now we can move forward with the appointment of a new board, who can begin the vital work necessary to get the Cuyahoga Board of Elections on track,” added Brunner.
One of the first orders of business for the new board will be to work with Interim Director Jane Platten in preparation for the Primary Election May 8. Another immediate concern will be the consultation with the selection committee to hire a permanent Executive Director and Deputy Director for the board.
In light of Bennett’s resignation from the Board, the removal hearing scheduled for Monday, April 16 is canceled
