Text of Hillary Rodham Clinton Wellesley Class of '69 commencement speech

Read it here.

It is poignant and not easy to read, though perhaps better when heard. But it sounds like Hillary and, in the beginning, when she says that “empathy doesn’t do us anything,” I most recognize what it is and why it is that I’m not sympatico with HRC. I better understand, after reading this speech, what it is she believes, she grasps, as what must be done and that is: to do. We must do. She’s not interested in the what you do before you do. She just wants to get things done. Sounds like her, even 40 years later.

And that dismissal, of empathy, of understanding before you do, is not something with which I can agree. And for sure is part of what gives rise to my chronic feelings of this candidate as not being my choice.

  1. Jill I love the way you think; I would love to be able to support her but this points to one reason why I think even Sen. Biden is a more thoughtful thinker than she is.

  2. It’s probably obvious, but I’ll say it anyway. “I’m on the opposite of the political center from you” should have read “I’m on the opposite side of the political center from you.”

  3. And that dismissal, of empathy, of understanding before you do, is not something with which I can agree. And for sure is part of what gives rise to my chronic feelings of this candidate as not being my choice.I’m on the opposite of the political center from you, but I think we’re in agreement here.
