Coughlin, among others, & SB89: mandates public school start for after Labor Day, school end…late June?

How do people feel about this? Why is it flying under the radar?

Here’s an ONN report on it.

The Legislative Service Center says that there’s no fiscal impact but I don’t think that’s quite right, given utility costs of late August versus late June – would it be an even swap? Here’s the LSC’s analysis of the bill.

I’ve been unable to uproot any other information so far but will start the route. If you know anything about it…

  1. I’d much rather they mandate equitable funding for education in this state. Selecting the appropriate school year dates should continue to be a local decision. Temperatues and climates differ around this state, as do individual community needs.
