A Woman A Day: “They call me and curse me, and threaten to kill me and my family…”

Such is the backlash battled by Dr. Hassina Sarwari, the head of the nonprofit, Women for Afghan Women. The most recent situation in need of her assistance was chronicled just two days ago in the New York Times article, Struggling to Keep Afghan Girl Safe After a Mullah Is Accused of Rape.”

The organization’s Executive Director, Manizha Naderi, spoke last year at Princeton University. Her remarks detailed the progress that has been made, while the current media reports demonstrate the work that remains. This eight minute video from May 2013 and narrated by Dan Rather, offers some of the stories.

For their work, Manizha Naderi, Hassina Sarwari and all the women pressing for change in Afghanistan, are the featured A Woman A Day.
